13 June 2010 - World Cup Opening Party
The Beggen supporters thought of almost everything, but unfortunately the people apparently didn't think of them! Last Friday, the ‘World Cup Opening Party 2010' was held at the club house of FC Avenir, organized by the Beggen fans. First, the World Cup opener between the hosts South Africa and Mexico was shown (1-1), where two experts from the first team were present, manager Jos Steffen and goalkeeper Lou Consbruck. The time gap between the two games was bridged by a quiz on football World Cup tournaments. It must have been hard, but winners were determined anyway: the so-called ‘Belvaux Mob', also known from the fan base of the national team, won the challenge. Their prize were two Beggen shirts. They were just ahead of our Scottish friends and the future reserves player Patrick Diederich. Finally, the quite disappointing game between France and Uruguay was on schedule, where there wasn't a winner either (0-0). There was a football expert in Beggen for that game, too: Gabi Vieira, who is about to move to Etzella Ettelbrück, took the opportunity to see one more time his friends in Beggen. It was also nice to see a few parents and youth players, although a bigger attendance in general was expected. Especially as the evening was animated well by DJ Chino, Beggen fan Joe Feller. Despite the small number of people having joined in, the Sangria tasted well and Batty Bentz at least had a nice birthday party that night, certainly as he got as a present a yellow South Africa shirt, that will also do it for Beggen games!
